Mapping the Rwandan Genocide
This map displays estimated levels of violence over the course of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide across each of the country's communes. These estimations are based upon data from local grassroots networks, African and international human rights NGOs, Rwandan ministries, and the U.N. amongst other sources. Overall, this research represents a decade-plus effort by Christian Davenport and Allan Stam, and builds upon other data-driven human rights studies such as those pioneered by Patrick Ball. The statistical estimations were performed by David Armstrong. My master's thesis using a prior version of the data is available here.
